Power Napping, then Tripping Balls
So, lately, I've been power-napping at lunch time. I get sleepy in the afternoon, and after eating my blueberry knockoff caloriemate and chugging some water, I have 30-40 minutes left with nothing to really do, so why not nap, yes? I got pzizz, and I've been using a 25 minute energizer session at lunch. It's pretty good, and usually leaves me feeling refreshed and good, and if I follow it up with a song that makes me happy, it elevates my mood for the afternoon. Good times.
Anyway, today I had the advanced beginnings of a migraine (whether it's just migraine time since i haven't had one for a while, or if it's caffeine withdrawal as i'd been off for 24 hours [though i did have a coffee at lunch just to turn it into a weaning situation instead of a cold turkey situation] i dunno), so I figured today I'd definitely better take a nap.
I settled in, and started the pzizz program and turned the volume up just a little bit to block traffic sounds from outside and settled in. I dozed off after about 2 or 3 minutes, and woke up about 20 minutes into the 25 minute session, but not like, AWAKE, I was in stage 1 or 2 sleep, very light, hypnagogia etc. I was aware of my surroundings and of my breathing, but was asleep. You know what I'm on about, yes?
Anyway, normally, I'll chill in a hypnagogic state for 5 minutes until the program wakes up properly, but this time it was different. I noticed that the random patterns I could see on the backs of my eyelids weren't random like they usually were; they were very well organized, fractal-esque kaleidoscopey patterns. As I concentrated on them, it became clear that the patterns were being made of words (or, at least, letters, in a very nice serif font, like Constantia, only uhhhh less heavy). I couldn't make out words, but the letters were all on top of each other and it was difficult to make it out, though I tried.
At one point, a wedge-shaped opening appeared in this ever-flowing design of letters, and there was a photo of people, I think. I couldn't really see it clearly, though I knew it was a crystal-clear photo. I couldn't focus. I think it was one person low in the foreground and another person standing behind them. Possibly the guy in the back was preparing to brain the guy in the front with a big stick, but I can't be sure of that. After a moment, that wedge shaped opening closed.
The kaleidoscopey letter funtime transitioned into a series of ever-flowing concentric tunnel-shapes, alternating dark and light. It was like I was going through a tunnel. As I progressed through the tunnel, I saw something far in the distance, but I wasn't sure quite what. As I approached it, I could feel my heart-rate climbing, and I started to breathe heavily. Suddenly, all was plunged into darkness, and I was there, alone, with whatever was at the far end of the tunnel. I could see it, and at the time, I knew what it was, but as soon as that moment faded and the kaleidoscopey letters returned, I lost it. It was a person, or a thing, or word/kanji. I know that for sure, but that sure doesn't narrow it down much.
It ended, the kaleidoscope came back and I slowly rose back to awakeness just in time for the program to end. It was goddamned trippy, yo, but not unpleasant. Just friggin' weird.
