At work today, I uhhhhhhh took some pictures of our old English textbooks (we got new editions two years ago) that I thought may amuse some of you.

This is Lisa. She's Canadian.  What students learned from this is that all Canadians are blond and hold their hands in stupidstupid ways.  Seriously, you try holding your left hand like that plz.  And she was ALWAYS doing stupid shit like that.  She was written out in the new edition, and her hand retardation died with her.

Another important lesson taught to the students is that Santa Claus lives in Finland, the scrotum of Fennoscandia.

In this program, each page was a letter from a kid in a different country. There was also this letter on the monitor. Singlish has to be the lowest form of English, and I really really hate it.  Worse, one of the teachers thought that this wasn't Singlish, but rather, internet speak, which it is kinda, i guess.  She wanted to teach the students about internet speak, and have them learn how to write letters like THAT.  I vetoed that, and made sure she was publicly humiliated for it.  No fucking way am I letting kids with only a basic grasp of English think it's okay to write like that.  I actually had the kids take black markers and cover the screens in their books, since it was such a bad idea.  This program was written out in the new edition.

The students also learn that in America, everything is BIG!  Big buildings! Big hats! Big sandwiches! Big wangs! I mean uhhhhhhhhhh Big hamburgers!!  From this point on, children want to go to America and eat big hamburgers (despite the fact that hamburgers in Japan are of equal or greater size).  It's their life's dream. When you ask them what they want to do with their life, it's "I want to go to Amerika and eat big humbagaa." 

Also allow me to draw your attention to the comprehension question: Does Yuki want a ride?  Well... it IS big, after all.
