Join me on PMOG, the Passively Multiplayer Online Game!
Just by surfing the interbutts, you get experience (datapoints). You can spend these on mines, to attack other surfers; armor, to protect yourself from mines; portals, to send people blindly to sites of your choosing; crates, so you can stash goodies for others to find; and lampposts, so you can make your own missions through the interweb, highlighting your favourite sites, exploring a topic, or whatnot, which other people can take for experience and learning new stuffz.
It's good fun, and you can play it as actively or passively as you like. Additionally, it's all delightfully steampunk themed, so how can you go wrong?
I'm Mullenkedheim, so feel free to mark me as an acquaintance if you like, once you join.
NOTE: If you're using Firefox 3 Beta 5, the plugin may be a bit dodgy. It works fine for me in 3b5 under Vista Ultimate, but it doesn't work under 3b5 in XP SP2. It works perfectly in 2.0.0.14 though, and the 3b5 problems will be cleared up sooner or later, I trust. Just a heads up, to prevent you from getting too frustrated. :}

Didn't do a whole lot of anything this weekend. Played Animal Crossing; played FFXII; played Audio Surf. Audio Surf is awesome, and I wish my computron could run it in higher quality than lowest-in-a-window. Check it out! If the weekend beta is over, sign up for the mailing list so you can take part in the next one. :D
Now have a video taken by Daisuke after the city 忘年会.
Last night was the end-of-term party at work. We had a buffet-style dinner at Nichima (which is always good, but never fantastic -- last night was no exception). After eating, it was time to wander around and pour drinks for people. Had a lot more conversations with the other teachers than I have in a while, so that was cool.
Afterwards, our little group of karaoke people got together and headed to Take 1. I usually end up starting with with an English song, then a Japanese song or two that I think I can muddle my way through, and then there'll be a few requests from Narcoleptic-sensei, and then I'll choose some more, and all the while the others are singing old Japanese songs. It's pretty fun.
A little while later, I did some sort of V6 medley that had Made in Japan, Take Me Higher, Music for the People, and a couple others, which was really fun. Then there were some other songs requested by Narcoleptic-sensei, such as Michael Jackson's Thriller (again, i only knew the chorus, so i flubbed my way through the rest), and Madonna's Material Girl (which involved me facepalming through the entire thing -- it WAS in the perfect key for me though, sooo -_-).
Later I got into the Disney songs. None of them have ever heard of Mary Poppins, apparently, which is terrible and needs to be rectified, but made Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious even more entertaining for them. Also did "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin. Would have done Under the Sea, but we ran out of time. :)
Karaoke is fun.
So, I love space. It's really just one of those things that I really enjoy everything about, but I can't really explain why. Anyway, there's this new site, Galaxy Zoo which allows you to indulge your love of space, and help out science at the same time.
It's all about galaxy classification: spiral (clockwise, counterclockwise), elliptical, mergers, or actually a star. Computers can look at the pictures, but computers are pretty bad at visual pattern recognition. This is why CAPTCHA images are so effective against bots. It makes it difficult for a computer to look at a picture of a galaxy (which may be low-res, blurry, etc.,) and make a judgment call on what classification it is. People, however, are awesome at visual pattern recognition; additionally, people love looking at space pictures. Put the two together, and you get Galaxy Zoo, where you analyze pictures of galaxies and what not and classify them. The site is new, and very popular, so it can be a little slow at times, but I'm sure it'll get things smoothed out soon.
Now it's time for a few shots that I've analyzed today.
It's fun, this Galaxy Zoo, at any rate.
What's on your mind? I lifted this from Ganesh. Apparently you pop in your name, and it spits out what's on your mind. Fair enough, it's not scientific at all but it's fun. :)
All the white things are 'holiday'. Yellow is money, black is bad things, the H is sex, and the light pink one near the top is 'secret'. Yeah, my mind is on my holidays these days. I want to get out of Tonami. I'm feeling trapped. I don't know why, I just am. Must Get Out™.
Using my real name gave me like, friends in back, play in the front, seperated by a band of bad things.
By now, the face recognition dealio at MyHeritage has been through the blogging communities on the internet several times, and people have tried several times to see what person they most resemble. Using this picture, I tried it again tonight. My results? 74% Emilio Estevez, 74% Ben Affleck, 68% Michael Rosenbaum, 64% Jake Gyllenhaal, 64% Benito Mussolini, 63% Will Ferrell. These are not at all the results I usually get, but there you are.
Then, I heard about kaocheki.jp, which does the same sort of thing, but is cell phone only, and spits back Japanese celebrities. I figured, hell, why not, so I gave it a go. The results started off pretty good, and then took a turn for the "What... really?"
In #1, at 28% (hey, I apparently don't like Asian, so sue me), was Kameda Daiki (亀田大毅), a boxer, from a family of boxers. His older brother Kouki is apparently really good? He's the WBA Light Flyweight Champ, at any rate. Anyway, that's my top result.
Next, 2nd place with 23% was Yamamoto Koji (山本耕史). He's some sort of talent, he's been on TV, in shows, put out CDs, has been in Japanese stagings of Rent and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and so on.Yeaaaah, so that's enough of that. :/
