This is 花見 (cherry blossom watching) this spring in Kojo Park in Takaoka. These random bankers were like OH HI, CAN WE JOIN U? and who were we to refuse?
Yesterday was sports day! I took too many pictures. Realized I had taken 650 by 10am, and was going to run out of space on my card. Did some in-camera purging of shittily composed and focused pics so I'd have enough, and then was more selective. In the end, I took about 840 pics, kept 430, and uploaded 88 to flickr. Here are the ones I decided were worth sharing with you~.
First event was the 100m dash. This was followed by some random stuff, such as the "many-legged race".
And also the game-in-which-people-with-baskets-on-their-back-avoid-people-trying-to-throw-socks-into-said-basket.
Just before lunch came the team performances.
After lunch was the tug of war.
Then the game-where-girls-and-only-girls-fight-each-other-to-get-tires.
There was the capture the flag game.
Then came 騎馬戦, or the cavalry battle game where boys (and only boys, because cavalry battles are men's work) are held aloft by four of their friends who carry them into glorious bandana battle.
It was around this time we noticed that the weather was changing.
Moments later, the skies opened up, and the final round of kibasen was cancelled. The rain stopped just in time for us to have the team relay, and the closing ceremonies.
Afterwards, when all the clean up was done and all the kids had gone home, it was time for the after-party. This led to the events of my previous post, the most bizarre evening of my life. -_-
And that wraps up my photos of sports day.
I lack inspiration for photo funtime these days. I had a project, but that turned out to be unfeasible, so now I'm sort of lost as to what to do. (shrug) You can look at these though.
Look, I'm all artsy and abstract !
The rice is coming along well, I'd say.
Happy New Year!
I have returned from my trip to Tokyo, which I've mostly explained already, so today will be pictures and pictures and then some pictures, and also a video that I shouldn't have but totally do, which you can see if you promise not to tell Avex.
But first thing's first:
I'm a nerdo, so of course I headed to Akihabara shortly after arriving. This is a full scale Slime, which I rly rly wanted, but had no real way to get it home, and it was 5250yen, which... it's awesome, but I can't justify it.
What!
I visited Meiji Shrine on the 30th, because I couldn't be arsed to go on New Year's, though I would have been right there, pretty much, after the Ayu concert. This year is the year of the Rat/mouse/rodent, so there's pics of mice everywhere.
Sake from around the country to be consecrated at Meiji Shrine.
The grounds reminded me of Ise Jingu a bit, but it was nowhere near as powerful.
I went to the Ayumi Hamasaki concert on New Year's Eve. It was FANTASTIC. The most fun I've ever had anywhere ever. Outside the stadium grounds, these custom vans were blaring Ayu music, music videos, and afterwards were selling pictures.
As a side note, when I got home and checked the torrent site I get most of my Japanese music from, I noticed that there was already a torrent of the concert, even though it had been like, a day. It was a surprise, and though I still plan on buying the DVD when it comes out, in the meantime I can enjoy the concert whenever I want. I can also share a few highlights with you guys, such as Ayu's New Year's message, which is (1) quite nice, and (2) was delivered in English with Japanese subtitles, so I could also fully understand it, which made it even awesomer. Here, look:
This sight was VERY UNACCEPTABLE, AND THE EMPEROR'S WEATHER MACHINE WILL PAY FOR THIS INSULT.
Left: charm/danglies of the MAGI supercomputer in Evangelion. On one side, they have the computer name, on the back, the aspects of Ritsuko's mom each computer represented. Centre: An FF7: Crisis Core keychain thinger, with "Soldier Class 1st" on it. Right: Metallic NERV logo decal. Dunno what I'll put it on yet. (shrug)
Left: NERV Notepad, Middle: Ritsuko keychain thinger, Right: PenPen keychain thinger
Left: FF4 Trading Arts Kain figure, 2nd from left: FF Trading Arts Vincent figure, 2nd from right: FF4 Trading Arts Cid figure, Right: FFT Trading arts Princess Ovelia figure (I bought two boxes of this, hoping for Ovelia and anyone else, because they're all pretty awesome figures, but I got two Ovelias... if any of you want the extra Ovelia, let me know, and I'll send it to you.
Okay, that's it! Back to the regularly scheduled random tomorrow.
I'll tell you what's bad though: Derek Acorah's Paranormal Egypt. This guy, an alleged psychic, and his colleague, the overwrought narrator, go to Egypt to try to get answers to some age old questions by speaking with the spirits of the dead. In the first episode, they were investigating the circumstances behind the death of Ramses III. Now, originally I thought, "Hey, Egypt is interesting, and psychics are kind of entertaining, so let's check it out!"
I like how, when searching for the link in the previous paragraph, the google search box in firefox's first suggestion as I typed was "derek acorah fake". :)
I mean, 'good' alleged psychics are clearly fakes, but the way they fake it, the show they put on, it's subtle, uncanny, and could almost be believable. This Derek Acorah guy is the complete opposite: hamhanded, over-the-top, tries to jar people into belief through dramatics instead of through subtle manipulation. It's clear that he researched the subject matter ahead of time, and then the uhhh Egyptologists out with him when he was doing his readings were either (1) duped and roped in by his tactics or (2) paid off. At one point, he claims to be speaking to the spirit of Ramses III (via his Spirit Guide, Sam); he says Ramses is very angry (with appropriate yelling and shouting and flailing of arms), angry that his sarcophagus is gone, when he should be here (they were in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings at this point). Acorah asks, "Who are you angry with?" and the reply comes, GIOVANNI BELZONI. The overwrought narrator is like, "Well, I'm glad he's not angry with us! This place is creepy! I want to leave!" and then the Egyptologist is like, "OMG, BELZONI IS THE MAN WHO DISCOVERED THIS TOMB WOOOOOOOOW!" Acorah then continues, "Ramses is showing me images... he's travelled all over the world as a spirit, because he can... he's showing me an image... he has some sort of interest there... the Eiffel Tower? What... what could he possibly care about there?" The Egyptologist pipes up with, "OMG THE SARCOPHAGUS IS IN THE LOUVRE OMGOMOMG". It continues in that vein until Acorah is possessed by a "helper" of Ramses, and then passes out dramatically.
I'm like... subtlety ppl! Subtlety is good, this hamhanded shit is bad!
Of course, I'm still going to watch the rest of the series, since I downloaded it, and Acorah's not making any money off of it. :) It's pretty lawlworthy.
Now, in unrelated video fun, here's a video from July, a goodbye party for some of the leavers, with Ruben on the guitar, performing that beloved karaoke classic: Wonderwall.
Two photos and a triptych today. I joined a bunch of new groups on flickr, because I was bored, and had an idea or two for some dip/triptychs and figured I'd join them too.
今日、2枚の写真と1つの三連作があります。Flickrに関するいくつかのグループに加わりました。退屈していたので、それをしました。三連作のための考えがあったので、三連作グループに加わりました。
I've been short of creativity lately, so I joined a group that gives assignments. "Assignment: Green." "Assignment: Industry", etc. This is what I did for industry. It's very busy, but the colours and textures are interesting, I think. If I'd given myself more than 10 seconds to take it, I probably would have framed it differently.
In the post-war period, industry was king in Japan; today, it's in decline, and the decay can be seen everywhere. The birth-rate, too, is declining. The only thing that's not declining is the beauty of the sky.
戦後の時代に、産業は日本に強かったです。しかし、今日、それは減少しています。いたる所で都市荒廃を見ることができます。また、出生率は低下しています。時々、青空の美が減退ではなく、唯一のものであるように思えます。
There, I'm done being an artsy-fartsy hippie for tonight.
じゃ、今夜のヒッピーであることで終わっています。
