What have you lost that you wish you still had?
Submitted by gunderson bee.
All the plush animals I had as a kid. When my parents separated and we moved away from the farm, my mom was like, "Hey, it will make packing easier if we use black garbage bags for things like blankets, quilts, sheets, clothes, your stuffed animals, etc." This was when I was... 9 I think. Anyway, that was fine, and we bagged them all up, every single one, even my favourite ones that I actually slept with.
Of course, my mom isn't the brightest bulb, and she also used the black garbage bags for garbage. Result? My bag of stuffed animals was never seen again. ;_;
How often do you call your parents?
NEVER.
What is the best beer on planet Earth?

I believe I speak for many people when I say:
DIE IN A FIRE.
God, Question of the Day is the most retarded thing ever. And the Vox Hunt? What's up with crafty mccrafterson this week?
I am Jack's abject disgust.
Now where's my Andorian brandy?
What one year of your life would you like to re-live, if you were given the chance?

Oh, fuck off and die in a fire.
How many times do you usually re-edit posts? What is the most common reason for doing so?

Layout fuckups. Something will look fine in the editor, but will be spaced different, or sized strangely in the actual page. Runner-up is missing words or phrases which are important, but that get left out because I think faster than I type.
What are you going to do with your tax return?
Submitted by KB.
Um, file it?
Unless you mean my tax REFUND, which is a phrase with a different meaning. If that's what was meant then uhhhh, since I don't get a refund, nothing! I don't even get the $100 basic refund that I have the last two years, probably because I actually filed my taxes properly this year, as opposed to the almost-but-not-quite-right way I apparently did it before.
At any rate, I will do nothing with my nonexistant refund, but I will totally file my return, or rather, I already did a month ago.
Now, so this isn't a complete waste of space, please enjoy this picture.
Is that some Engrish I see? I think it is!
When is the last time you stayed up all night?
This would have been Saturday night/Sunday morning. I got tired and decided to climb into bed around 3 am. about 6 hours earlier, I'd eaten a big mac, small fries, tripoint chocolate pie, and a small chocolate milk shake from the McDonald's in my local Apita. I'd been feeling kind of... fatigued all day; not sick, just sort of meh, but not enough to go to bed until 3 am.
I laid down, and within moments there was stomach acid splashing into the back of my throat. Now, I often get very bad heartburn, but it's always like... stomach acid FUMES, if you know what I mean. It's uncomfortable, but there's nothing really there. This was different. I was like, drooling bile. It was painful. I got up and took some Gaviscon, and sat on the couch again for a little bit, trying to feel more settled. Took my temperature, and I realized that I was rocking a 39C fever. I sat up until about 7 before returning to bed and propping myself up so that stuff in my stomach would, uh, stay there.
Got up again around 10 after not sleeping very well, and that's when the other -- how shall I put this without crossing any further into 'too much information' territory -- gastrointestinal symptoms (yes, yes, I think that works quite nicely) started to present. I spent the rest of the day moving between the couch and the washroom, with brief stops at the sink to refill my water bottle.
Later in the evening, I felt a little better and tried to drink some miso soup, and it didn't make me worse, so that was cool. Monday I stuck to the liquid diet, and fortuitously found some un-expired medication in a pile of stuff on my fridge that would help my, er, gastrointestinal symptoms. Today, I'm mostly better, but I still need to be careful. My stomach is feeling just a bit off right now, so hopefully that's not going to be a problem.
But yeah, I was tired all last week, and then this happened, and this is why I haven't posted much lately. I haven't even properly unpacked from my Vietnam trip yet -- the backpack with all my souvenirs and stuff? Yeah, it hasn't been touched. You're not the only people/things I'm neglecting. :)
For a while on Sunday, I couldn't decide whether I had food poisoning, bird flu, or malaria. While bird flu is unlikely, I was in Vietnam, and there were birds, so it's not impossible; while I was in low-risk (note: not no-risk) malaria zones in Vietnam, we stopped at a tourist trap on the way back from Ha Long Bay, which I've determined is in a non-low-risk zone, and of course it's there that the mosquitoes decided to feast on my legs. Likelihood of me getting malaria? Slim to nil, but every time I spike a fever for the next few months, it's gonna be in the back of my mind.
Anyhoo, I think tomorrow will be a pretty slow day at work for me -- it's opening ceremony, but after that I think I'll pretty free and open, so maybe I'll be able to write up a bit then, and maybe share some of my project365 pics from the last little bit.
What are your resolutions for 2007?
1280x1024 at home.
1280x800 at work.
These are the only resolutions anyone actually keeps, and they're incredibly irrelevant, so why ask about them? Way to be boring and cliché, Vox.
How are you ringing in the New Year tonight?
I stayed home and ordered pizza, bought some beer and some chu-hi, and watched TV. Sometimes there's crazy shit on TV (two years ago there was some sort of exploding daruma exploding leading into ass dancing), but this year there was only the NHK Kouhaku Utagassen to keep me entertained (kouhaku is "deep crimson [red] and white", the colours displayed at festive times like graduation, new year's, etc; utagassen is song competition). Male and female musical performers organize into teams along gender lines and then compete for the best show at the kouhaku utagassen (people can vote through their satellite reciever/digital tv reciever/cell phone). I missed it last year because I was riding a Yamanote Line train in Tokyo most of the day, but I figured I'd watch it this year.
I caught all of the Mihimaru GT performance, and then flipped around a bit, and then came back and watched the rest. It wasn't until I'd been watching for quite a while that I realized "Hey, i should totally check the 2chan TV board to see if there's kouhaku screens." Lucky for you, there were! It's too bad I missed the first bit, but this is still quite a lot, as you'll see. I don't promise that stuff is actually in proper chronological order here, but I made a halfassed effort to do it. I just don't actually know a lot of these people and can't match them up in the schedule and my memory blows because I'm blasted on beer and chu-hi. You'll survive. :)
BoA performed, but she sucked ass. There was a fuckload of enka singers. Here are a few:
Next, Morning Musume.
Coming back from the break, we had WaT, Ayumi Hamasaki, Nakashima Mika, and TOKIO.
In the next group was DJ Ozma, with the nudie outfits (is that okay on NHK? o_O) When Nakama Yukie saw them, she shit bricks.
Also, Angela Aki:
Then, they brought out the NHK weather girl for some bizarre reason.
The overwhelming press of people trying to get pictures of the weather girl killed the TV board at 2chan for the next couple hours. Since I don't have pictures for those acts, let's take a look at some of the filler that cropped up during the course of the show.
Wada Akiko should never be allowed to dress up as a maid and shout MOE MOE.
Shingo appeared for a little while dressed as the monkey... guy... thing... MONKEY MAGIC
There was also a chick that 2chan could only say "OPPAI!!" (tits) about.
Of course, 2chan still wasn't back, so let's check in with what was going on on other stations during kouhaku.
Hosoki Kazuko was teaching scores of young women how to bow properly, as well as telling Kotooshu that he'd be married in 2010 to a Japanese girl.
This girl is still way too fond of her cats.
There was a series of people performing in dresses that were more set-piece than garment. Wada Akiko was in a blue piece that went to the floor and then out another metre. This Evil Drag Queen whose name I don't know had a skirt that covered the entire stage and had real life small children embroidered into the edges for the purpose of carrying it around.
This other enka woman had some sort of flying dress rig. At the end, there seems to have been a bit of concern about getting her down which was laughed off.
Finally, the end came.
The votes were tallied and, in the end, the White team won (aka, the men). Since then, I've been watching the CDTV special. Oh, new year's eve. -_-
Do you remember your first flight? Where did you go? Why?
Submitted by Laurel.
My first flight was from Toronto to Detroit on a commuter flight. When I came to Japan, there were two groups of us leaving from Toronto. (Well one group, but it was HUGE, so two flights). One group was on an Air Canada flight nonstop to Tokyo, but I was on the other flight. Commuter flight to Detroit, 3 hour wait, and then Northwest to Tokyo. -_- It was all pretty fucktarded, and I'm still pissed off that my city skimped on my flight like that. But whatever.
