あけおめ!
Happy New Year!
I went to Tokyo and just hung out. Took a bunch of pics. I'll share them, of course. Watching last week's Top Gear in Vietnam special, which is hilarious. Best road trip ever.
BUT! Tokyo photos.
The Shonan beaches are great, as I expected they would be.
We went for Chinese food in Kamakura, even though we were planning to go for Chinese in Yokohama for supper, just because it was close and open and we didn't have to walk any further.
The Great Buddha of Kamakura is watching you poop. :o
It's always entertaining to read what the English-speakers write on these little prayer boards.
Cutest Buddhist statue ever :}
I filled my memory card, so when i got back to Tokyo, I made a stop in Akihabara to buy a new one. Everything besides the Labi/Yamada Denki was closed, but this guy was against a hoarding at the station, and that was pretty bizarre.
I was trying to get a picture of the Rainbow Bridge, when a couple came and asked me to take their picture for them. Then they offered to return the favour, but had a heck of a time. Tried it like 15 times, even though this was the first pic, and it was fine. (shrug)
Oh Tokyo, you silly, silly place.
Gackt was the only celebrity tested who could tell the difference between cheap beef and high-end Miyazaki beef. During the taste test, blindfolds were necessary.
Right. New Year's woo.
It's been 6 months since I visited Tokyo :o Too long, I have to say.
Though I was unsuccessful in getting tickets to the New Year's Countdown Ayumi Hamasaki concert this year, I'm still gonna spend New Year's in Tokyo. Why not, yes?
I've been to Tokyo several times, of course, but there's still stuff I haven't done. I haven't been to Yokohama! And there's no reason to have gone (I get a free JR ticket with my shinkansen ticket, for use in Saitama/Tokyo/Chiba/Yokohama), so that would be good.
But what specifically should I definitely not miss out on? Let's pretend this is the last time I'll ever be able to visit Tokyo/the Tokyo region.
What things in the Tokyo/Saitama/Chiba/Yokohama area should I definitely go to/visit/see/do? Places with awesome photo opportunities are doubleplusgood.
I uploaded this video. It had an Ayu song. YouTube detected it, realized it was an Avex song, and because Avex is a shitdick, they block any use of their property (unlike UMG which puts ads on pages with their material, which is the way shit ought to work).
Anyway, then I tried YouTube's "Audioswap" function, which was offered to me as a way to rectify the problem. But apparently it takes forever to do that? Fuck off. Then it started giving me "An Unknown Error Occurred" everytime I tried to change the audio or mute the audio, so I said fuck this and deleted it. I changed the audio on my end (which involved re-encoding to .avi, which somehow fucked the AR), and re-uploaded. Then YouTube decided to, again, only give the supar low quality version, and generally be a cock.
Anyway, Spring 2k8, with hanami and a trip to Canada, and Tokyo later.
In EYE-BLEEDINGLY LOW QUALITY BECAUSE YOUTUBE FUCKED UP THE CONVERSION SOMEHOW, and only has the "normal quality" version available, instead of the high quality and the normal quality, as is the case for the rest of my videos -_-.
There are two times when the Emperor makes public appearances at the palace in Tokyo: on his birthday (Dec 23 for the current emperor) and New Year's Day. One year, I was in Tokyo for New Year's, and though I felt like ass and could barely breathe, I ventured onto the subway to go to see the Emperor, the wonderful Emperor of Japan.
I think I got a few pictures... let me try to dig them up:
I was far away, and being jostled by people (understandably) far more excited than I was. I tried to shoot some video, but it didn't turn out very well. Gives a good idea of the mood, though.
Behold, a pointless video, taken Dec 31 2007, in the early evening, out the window of the Royal Host near Otsuka Station in Tokyo while I ate delicious sirloin-steak-don teishoku.
Happy Tree Friends bobbleheads! (And Toucan Sam apparently!)
This is a strap, with two mirrors, on a ds-shaped charm. It's the Nitendo DM Lite Dobble Mirror. -_-
SO WANTED THIS, if not for me, then as a gift for someone else, but it was like, 4500yen, so no.
